Sha Fei: A Humanist Photographer at War (1912-1950)
One of the most influential Chinese photographers of his generation, Sha Fei captured some of the most iconic images of wartime China from the late 1930s to the 1940s. His work reflects his deep humanism and his belief in the power of photography to awaken the people. Following his tragic execution in 1950, Sha Fei?s name was erased from history, only to be rediscovered in the 1980s.

HKUST Jointly Presents with Times Higher Education Inaugural Asia Universities Summit in its 25th Anniversary Year
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today jointly presents with Times Higher Education (THE) the inaugural Asia Universities Summit in its 25th Anniversary year, where global leaders in higher education and other sectors share their insights into nurturing creativity and innovation. The two-day summit – which is held for the first time, and is hosted by HKUST on its Hong Kong campus – features as speakers some 30 presidents, chancellors and rectors from fast-rising and top universities in 15 Asian nations and cities, and other countries, including Mainland China, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, the United States, and the United Kingdom, among others.

Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Applications and Services Group Dr Qi Lu Speaks on The Anatomy of an Emerging Digital Society at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series on 25 January, featuring Dr Qi Lu, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Applications and Services Group. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST.

“Natural World, Cultural Elegance” Science Meets Photography in HKUST exhibition
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library holds an exhibition to display the artworks of a world-renowned photographer Dr Tin Man Lee, who was awarded the Grand Prize in the highly prestigious Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Competition in 2013, out of 25,000 entries from 50 countries. Titled “Natural World, Cultural Elegance: A Photography Exhibition by Tin Man Lee”, this exhibition features 48 stunning wildlife photos along with multimedia displays, including Nature's winning piece “Pouncing Bear”, which was exhibited in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., USA. “I am very excited and honored to have my first solo exhibition at HKUST. I love animals and photography, and I hope my photos can raise the awareness of the beauty of nature around us,” said Dr Tin Man Lee.

HKUST Presents Fifth Anniversary Season of Internationally-Acclaimed Exploration of Creativity!
Hailed by the Financial Times as the "city's most innovative musical experience", The Intimacy of Creativity presented by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrates its Fifth Anniversary Season! Events will run from 20 April to 3 May 2015. The Intimacy of Creativity continues to explore the creative process as selected composers present and revise their chamber music compositions after in-depth discussions between composers and performers during on-campus open discussions. The revised compositions will be formally presented at Preview Concerts in the newly opened Cheng Yu Tung Building Multipurpose Hall on the campus of the HKUST and World Premiere Concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre.

Colours of Stories: An Exhibition of Paintings by Jeanie Leung
For the first time the Library will stage an art exhibition of a HKUST graduate student?s works in our G/F Gallery.   Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jeanie Leung worked in the banking industry for several years after earning a business degree from HKUST. Her childhood dream of becoming an artist went unrealized until she left her stable job to pursue a new life as a full-time painter in 2009 ? though she had never received formal art training.

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) hosted an international workshop on contemporary Chinese literature today, featuring Mr Gao Xingjian, Nobel Laureate in Literature 2000.

HKUST Presents Third Season of Internationally-Acclaimed Exploration Creativity
Hailed by the Financial Times as "the city's most innovative music experience," The Intimacy of Creativity, the first-of-its kind in Hong Kong, is a two-week Partnership devoted to an intimate dialogue between composers and performers presented by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). It returns to Hong Kong 22 April to 5 May, 2013. Based on an idea that is at once new and old, world-renowned composers and performers, and assorted emerging composers come together to exchange musical ideas in depth, for the purpose of improving their compositions, or their performance practice or their musical interpretations. This will be done over the course of two weeks in Open Discussions. Audiences will be ringside to witness the birth of new music and hear the final results for themselves at the World Premiere Concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre on 28 April and 5 May, 2013.
