HKUST's International, Research-rich, Creative and Broad-based Teaching Commended by Quality Assurance Council
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomes the report from the Quality Assurance Council (QAC), which concluded that “in its short history, HKUST has advanced to become a leading international university”, with “strong grounds for being proud of its achievements to date”. The QAC Audit Panel also recognizes the University’s commitment to a “culture of academic excellence”, demonstrated by its “strong global rankings”, and commended that HKUST has a “rigorous and scholarly approach to quality improvement”.

HKUST professor won the UGC teaching award 2015
Prof Kam-Tim Woo, Associate Professor of Engineering Education of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), received the 2015 University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Award today in recognition of his outstanding teaching performance and achievements.
HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan congratulated Prof Woo on winning the award, ‘HKUST strives to achieve education and research excellence and we have many innovative and dedicated faculty members. It is very encouraging that our faculty member has been honored with the Award. It is an evidence of the University’s commitment in enhancing teaching and learning I am glad that Prof Woo has won the Award.’

HKUST UG Students Achieve Best Ever Results in International Case Competitions
Case analysis and competitions help students develop business sense and critical thinking skills. Through the process they discover real-world business issues for themselves and gain international exposure. The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has concluded this season’s case competitions by winning multiple international titles. This best ever performance is the result of the School’s continued effort to promote a case-study learning culture combined with an experience-sharing platform initiated by students.

HKUST Robotics continues its dominance
HKUST Robotics Team beat nine competing teams from six local tertiary institutions in the Robocon 2015 Hong Kong Contest. HKUST has been awarded championship in this competition for five consecutive years since 2011.
The contest theme for this year is “ROBOMINTON – BADMINTON ROBO-GAME”, which requires students to design and construct their own robots. The robots were then made to participate in badminton games designed for them.
Computer Science student and team leader Au Chun-ming said: “I wish there was an easier way to winning but the truth is there was none. The two HKUST teams with a total of 29 members spent three hours a day to practise and improve the smoothness and accuracy of the robots’ movements.”

HKUST's Dean Of Science Prof Nancy Ip elected as Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences
Prof Nancy Ip, Dean of Science, The Morningside Professor of Life Science and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been elected as a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The NAS is the oldest and most prestigious scientific organization in the United States that represents all disciplines of science. Membership is a mark of excellence as it is by election only, and based on distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. It is one of the highest honors bestowed by a US scientific organization.

Prof Tom Hiu Tung Cheung and Prof Kam Tuen Law from Division of Life Science and Department of Physics respectively were honored the prestigious Croucher Innovation Awards 2015 by the Croucher Foundation for their distinguished scientific research achievements.

Dr Tom Hiu Tung Cheung, Assistant Professor of the Division of Life Science, and Dr Kam Tuen Law, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) were honored the prestigious Croucher Innovation Awards 2015 by the Croucher Foundation for their distinguished scientific research achievements. Each award carries a value of up to HK$5 million over five years. The presentation ceremony held today was officiated by Mr John Tsang Chun-wah, GBM, JP, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government.
