BizInsight@HKUST Seminar Features Nobel Laureate Prof Sir Christopher Pissarides on Brexit Impact
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) hosted the BizInsight@HKUST Seminar today. The Seminar featured Prof Sir Christopher Pissarides, the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economics and IAS Helmut & Anna Pao Sohmen Professor-at-Large of HKUST, to provide insights into the Brexit impact on global economies.

Fosun Vice-Chairman and CEO Mr Xinjun Liang Shares the Group’s Investment Philosophy and Entrepreneurial Spirit at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series today, featuring Mr Xinjun Liang, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of China’s leading investment corporation Fosun Group. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST.
In his talk titled “Fosun’s Investment Philosophy and Entrepreneurial Spirit”, Mr Liang shared how the Hong Kong-listed group has grown from a mainland enterprise with just RMB 38,000 in registered capital, into a world-leading investment group with total asset value exceeding RMB 400 billion. Mr Liang also encouraged HKUST students to engage in industries and embrace challenges in high spirits.

EY Global Vice Chair – Tax Jay Nibbe Shares Insights on the Disruptive Forces that will Shape Our Careers in the Future at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series today featuring Mr Jay Nibbe, Global Vice Chair – Tax of leading assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services network EY. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST.
In his talk entitled “Disruption in business: what forces will shape our careers in the coming years?”, Mr Nibbe presented an overview on how disruptive forces such as technology and globalization will shape our careers and lives in the coming years.
“Technology is dramatically affecting entire industries,” Mr Nibbe said in his speech. “Globalization has accelerated trade liberalization and emerging market growth, and demographic shifts through migration, immigration and increased urbanization are having profound effects on workforces and economic development. Disruption is fundamentally changing the way the world works.”

“HeadStart@HKUST Program” Brushes Up Freshmen’s Competitiveness With Early Workplace Immersion and Career Development Guidance
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)’s inaugural “HeadStart@HKUST Program” (HeadStart) aims to offer first and second year undergraduate students a “head-start” in the increasingly global and competitive society through an early workplace immersion and career development scheme.
Initiated by HKUST Council Members Catherine Leung, Prof Jack Lau and Prof May-yi Shaw, Assistant Professor of Humanities Education of the Division of Humanities, the program was launched in February. Unlike common internship programs, HeadStart consists of three components – Internship, Mentorship, and Fellowship – that are designed to provide students with a holistic workplace training and career enrichment experience.
